Clare Woods
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Clare Woods makes paintings of psychic landscapes. Her images are transcribed from photographs, which are taken at night, often in desolate, contested or overlooked locations such as areas of scrub or deep woodland. Pointing the camera and shooting into black, wet, creaking scrub, without any idea of what will manifest itself when the film is developed. Layers of enamel paint on aluminium, the resulting images are often disturbing and claustrophobic in their detail.
