ABOUT THE SHOW
With the exhibition of six Cubist paintings by Emil Filla, the Jiri Svestka Gallery opens a long-term programme designed to present rarely-displayed works from that part of the famous Vincenc Kramar collection inherited by the collector's daughter Ruzena Brunclikova.
The paintings of Emil Filla (1882 -1953), leader of the Czech avant-garde during the inter-war years, show a clear progression from the dry, analytical approach of early Parisian Cubism, to an individual style that is resonant with colour, allowing the decorative values of the work to come to the forefront.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kramar acquired this small group of French impressionistic and fauvistic prints at the Kahnweiler Gallery. This was at the very beginning of his purchase of French art.
