ABOUT THE SHOW
tto Gutfreund (1889 - 1927) is one of the most important European sculptors of the first half of the 20th century; he is also one of the great personalities of Czech modern art. Gutfreund was amongst the first artists internationally to transform the ideas of Picasso’s cubism into sculpture. Later, during the 1920s, he created a unique form of figurative sculpture which was linked to realist tendencies of the time. This exhibition includes 80 drawings and 20 sculptures from all periods of Gutfreund´s career, many of which have not been previously exhibited in public. It is the first exhibition of Classical Modernism to be held at the Jiri Svestka Gallery.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Petr Pithart, the President of the Senate of the Parliament of Czech Republic
