ABOUT THE SHOW
The exhibition dedicated to the city of Prague – a collection of vedutas in oil on canvas as well as drawings shows us the urban landscape complete with illustrations of the daily human interactions. Part of the exhibited paintings are from the series Hitch-hiking, a selection of city views accross the globe, that touch current questions of travelling and globalisation.
Oscillating at once between distanced bird’s eye views and detailed streetscapes, Dwurnik’s cities may look undistinguishable from afar. When looking closer, they reveal a coexistence of the past and present life in each town, local traditions and personalities that make a place unique.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Edward Dwurnik (born 1943) is one of the most distinctive and also most controversial polish artists today. His boundless production of works is inspired by polish naive paintings, showing monumental scenes from public political life or dramatic moments in history, and yet including ironic scenes of social life and satiric comments on public figures.
